THE LUMINOUS GARDEN

Come and explore a magical roof top garden as Maureen Grierson transforms into a world of wonder and light.  Follow the magical trail out of the darkness and discover a wonderland of glowing plants and objects.

Elements will appear then disappear when someone gets too close,  mounds that seem made to sit on, an iridescent fantasy world where the community can interact, explore, experience and be surprised.

The Luminous Garden is best explored at night.

The Concept:

Our concept is to create an enchanted sensory space that will appeal to all demographics. There will be an iconic glowing tree that will be seen by all who visit the Scarborough foreshore. As people are naturally drawn to light we feel that this will draw them to the space, once they reach the building, all entrances either stairs, the ramp or bridge will be scattered with little iridescent plants or moss which will seem like a magical trail leading them to the enchanted space.

The Artists:

Anna Crane (Jager Studio) is a designer, producer and visual artist who works across media merging digital and traditional arts together. Her work has included interactive installations, site-based projections, touchscreen, mobile development and public art light installations. Using projections, sound, smell, LED, robotics, mobile technologies and other techniques, her work takes a theatrical and playful approach to urban space – ‘emotion from a space’.

Britt Mikkelsen's work is multidisciplinary, incorporating sculpture, furniture design, lighting, theatre design, scenic arts, design for television and the commercial sector.  Britts work reflects her interests in the natural world and is influenced by her Scandinavian background. Recent work focuses on lighting to create a sense of wonder, to lure the onlooker into my world. . Britt is interested in how contrasting materials can cause harmony or discord, depending on their implementation. To this end she uses natural materials in contrast to the man made; oxides, sand, charred timber and resins to create texture and intrigue.
